Originally constructed in 1588 as a watchtower by the Knights of St. John, St. James Cavalier played a crucial role in safeguarding Valletta’s fortifications during the island’s turbulent past. Over the centuries, the building underwent various transformations, serving as a military outpost, a police station, and even a cinema during the early 20th century.
However, in 2000, the Government of Malta recognized the potential of this historic structure as a hub for artistic and cultural endeavors. Extensive renovations and restoration work took place, transforming St. James Cavalier into Spazju Kreattiv, a contemporary cultural space that pays homage to its storied past.
Today, Spazju Kreattiv stands as a beacon of creativity, providing a platform for local and international artists to showcase their talents. The center hosts a diverse array of events, including art exhibitions, music concerts, film screenings, theater performances, workshops, and cultural festivals.
How do I get there?
Spazju Kreativ is conveniently located in Valletta, just over 5 minutes away from The Embassy Valletta Hotel.
