Birgu by Candlelight is a yearly local event which is loved by locals and foreigners alike!
When planning a trip to Malta during October, one will surely be in for a cultural treat! This year, the popular Birgu by Candlelight will be held between the 11th and 13th October 2019. The city of Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa) is one of the historic three cities facing Valletta’s Grand Harbour.
Birgufest is a celebration of culture, art and historical re-enactments. During the event, the picturesque streets and houses of Birgu are lit up with candles and chandelier. Different artists will display their unique talent around the winding pathways of this historic city.
Throughout Birgu by Candlelight, most of the museums and historical buildings will extend their opening hours so that visitors may enjoy these amazing cultural places, such as the Inquisitor’s Palace and the magnificent Fort St. Angelo. One may also indulge in traditional Maltese food which will be available from different food stalls spread across Birgu.
The good thing about staying in Valletta? Birgu is just 10 minutes away by boat! Just take the ferry from the Ta’ Liesse area in Valletta and enjoy your trip by sea across the scenic Valletta’s Grand Harbour.
