Last updated: April 2026 — Green Key certification renewed for 2026–2027.
As a key player in the hospitality industry in Malta, we are committed towards our environment. Since opening our hotel in the heart of Valletta, we have never strayed from our core values. From day one, sustainable development and environmental responsibility have guided every decision we make.
We are proud to hold the Green Key eco-label certification, renewed for 2026–2027. This renewal confirms our continued compliance with the programme’s rigorous environmental standards. As a result, our commitment to sustainable operations is not a one-time achievement — it is how we run our hotel every single day.
What Is the Green Key Certification?
The Green Key certificate is the leading standard for excellence in environmental responsibility and sustainable tourism operation. This prestigious eco-label is awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to establishments that meet strict environmental criteria. Additionally, it is recognised across more than 44 countries worldwide, making it one of the most respected sustainability credentials in the industry.
For our guests, Green Key carries a meaningful promise. By choosing to stay at a Green Key certified hotel, you are actively contributing to a more sustainable future. Therefore, every booking at The Embassy Valletta Hotel is also a vote for responsible tourism.
Our Green Key Certification: Renewed for 2026–2027
We are delighted to announce that our Green Key certification has been renewed for the 2026–2027 period. The certificate was issued by Nature Trust (Malta) — the national Green Key operator — and is valid until 31 March 2027. This renewal reflects our ongoing dedication to meeting the Foundation for Environmental Education’s strict criteria. Furthermore, it demonstrates that our environmental practices are not temporary measures — they are part of how we operate every day.
How We Meet Green Key Standards
The high environmental standards required by the Green Key programme are maintained through rigorous documentation and frequent audits. However, behind those audits are real, everyday practices that make a genuine difference. The following measures are permanently embedded into the running of our hotel:
- The air conditioning in all rooms stops automatically once a balcony or window door is opened, reducing unnecessary energy use.
- All room lighting switches off within 10 seconds of removing the key card from the master switch.
- In our efforts to minimise single-use plastics, bathroom amenities by L’Occitane are provided in refillable bottles.
- Complimentary water for our guests is filtered on site, eliminating plastic bottles and reducing our carbon footprint.
- Information is shared electronically rather than on paper leaflets, cutting down on unnecessary waste.
- Waste bins are fitted with separators to help us recycle more efficiently.
- A towel-washing saving measure is in place to reduce both water and energy consumption.
- All employees receive rigorous environmental training, ensuring that our values are reflected in every interaction and operation.
A Commitment That Continues
Sustainability is not a box we tick — it is a standard we hold ourselves to every year. Moreover, it is one we are proud to be held accountable for through independent certification. As we look ahead, we remain focused on finding new ways to reduce our environmental impact and raise the bar for responsible hospitality in Valletta.
We believe that great hospitality and genuine environmental care go hand in hand. Consequently, when you stay with us, you can do so knowing that your comfort and the health of our planet are not in conflict.
