The Embassy Valletta Hotel is proud to support ECO Valletta, an initiative by the Valletta Local Council aimed at making the capital greener and more sustainable.
As the first company to contribute to the programme, The Embassy Valletta Hotel has planted a number of olive trees at Hastings Gardens, one of Valletta’s most cherished public spaces and a favourite among both residents and visitors.
The olive tree is one of the most enduring symbols of the Mediterranean. Drought-resistant, long-lived, and deeply rooted in Maltese culture, it is a fitting choice for a project that aims to bring more greenery into an urban environment built almost entirely from limestone.
Hastings Gardens sits at the City Gate end of Valletta, overlooking Marsamxett Harbour toward Sliema and Manoel Island. It is one of the quieter corners of the capital and a popular spot for evening walks, morning runs, and sunset views. Adding new trees to the garden strengthens its role as a green refuge within the city walls.
Why This Matters
Valletta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most densely built environments in Europe. Green spaces within the city are limited, and every new tree makes a measurable difference to air quality, shade, and the overall experience of living in and visiting the capital.
ECO Valletta represents a commitment by the Valletta Local Council to improve the city’s urban environment through practical, lasting interventions.
About ECO Valletta
ECO Valletta is a greening and sustainability initiative run by the Valletta Local Council. The programme invites businesses and organisations within Valletta to contribute to the greening of the capital through tree planting, urban landscaping, and environmental improvement projects.
The Embassy Valletta Hotel is proud to have been the first private company to participate, and we look forward to continued involvement as the programme grows.
