The Malta International Fireworks Festival 2022

The 21st edition of the Malta International Fireworks Festival, organised by the Ministry for Tourism and the Malta Tourism Authority will be taking place between Sunday 17th April and Saturday 30th April 2022.

This year’s edition will include 9 Pyro Musical Displays organised by various local licensed Fireworks Factories & Clubs. Apart from the Pyro Musical Displays, anyone attending the festival will also have the opportunity to see the Traditional Maltese Fireworks. The definition of the word Pyro Musical Display is the combination of a pyrotechnical display synchronized with music. Pyro Musical Displays use lower-cost fireworks materials, to create a fireworks entertainment show that is synchronized to a musical theme. Traditional local fireworks, on the other hand, are more complex, faithful to local, authentic, hand-made, traditional production. Local participants showcase their talent through their artisanal expertise that cannot be compared to the machine-produced fireworks that are generally imported.

The event will be hosted in 7 different locations over different days, three of which will host a competition between foreign and local competitors, whilst the last day of the festival is the ‘Grand Finale’ where the Malta Tourism Authority takes the opportunity to announce the winner chosen by the Jury.

The dates and locations are as follows:

  • Ħondoq ir-Rummien, Qala – Easter Sunday, 17th April 2022
